I sprained my left ankle in March 2006. The ensuing year was marked by frustrating cycles of recovery and reinjury. Every time I tried to increase the volume or intensity of training to meet my fitness goals, my ankle would get stiff and swell up. Consequently, I was forced to reduce my efforts and my running times plateaued. The Feldenkrais sessions with Sharon have been a real education for me, both cognitively and on a somatic level. The sessions are deceivingly easy and passive on my part but they leave me permanently imprinted with a new awareness which I carry with me while I run, walk, stand, sit or just lie down. There is no going back to my old ways. This new-found awareness has really helped me to tune in to my posture and gait during running, even to issues we have not specifically covered during the sessions. This has enabled me to train with more intensity, less injury, and resulted in faster race times. In fact, in the past 3 months I have had 2 PRs at half-marathon and my fastest 5k since high school. WooHoo!!
